Early life
Ral Zarek was abandoned when he was young and spent is early years in an orphanage in Galinor’s capital city Vale. From an early age Ral was sensitive to forces from the outer planes and would converse with unseen beings. This behavior was interpreted by others as “imaginary” friends and lead to his social isolation within the orphanage. As he grew older he was able to communicate with more powerful entities.
At the age of 8 he was adopted by a wealthy merchant family (Good Human, rare metals) and spent the next few years in the city of Vale. During this time he would occasionally travel with his foster father to major cities in the Kingdoms of Arcona, Dhuros, and Termina. On these travels he learned about the cultures and customs of these other kingdoms.
When Ral was 12, Emrakul (Titan of Corruption) started to telepathically communicate with him. Within his mind she took the form as a high elf priestess, due to his inability to comprehend her physical and magical nature. Over the next few months she tapped into his mind with increasing regularity, offering him visions of the outer planes. It wasn’t long before he was completely enthralled with her powers and fell in love.
Emrakul offered Ral a chance to tap into the magical energies in exchange for helping bring her into the material plane. He accepted this pact and began testing his newly acquired powers. Shortly after, Ral’s foster parents were found dead, having committing “suicide” by bludgeoning their heads into an altar of the Sol (the sun god). Their sudden suicide was a result of Ral’s first attempt at sharing thoughts & visions of the outer planes. When he asked Emrakul why this had occurred she simply responded “Their minds were too frail”.
He spent the rest of his young adulthood living on the streets, surviving off of pick pocketing, minor cons, and using his magic to manipulate others. At the young age of 17, and made his way to Dhuros in search of an ancient relic that would help bring Emrakul into this plane. During his travels he (age 19) ran into Vyr (Vire) in the Tir-Azel (Elven roads). Emrakul deemed he would be a good asset. She erased his mind and made him a servant, sworn to protect Ral and help find the relic.
